Hunger Knows No Religion

KSK hits 1U again!

KSK has its second outing at 1Utama’s community corner over the weekend of 28-29 June to raise public awareness and invite donations. Volunteers led by Pete Nicoll manned the stand, distributing our new flyers and postcards to curious browsers. Early on Saturday, a lady came up to our stand after talking to volunteer Anna Tan, whipped out her cheque book. She looked at Anna sternly and said, “This is all going to the homeless?”, to which Anna nodded vehemently. Anna had thought she wanted to write a cheque for RM120 but on closer inspection, it was for RM1200!

On another occasion, a father watched from a distance as his young child toddled over to pop RM50 into our donation box. Such were the random acts of kindness which KSK volunteers witnessed throughout the weekend.

Captain Marvel drops in
Again, KSK had the support of one of football’s legend of legends – this time it was ex-Man U and ex-England captain, aka ‘Captain Marvel’, Bryan Robson. Since March 2008, Robson has been the Ambassador for Man U and it was fantastic for him to come and support KSK on his extremely tight schedule. At 2pm on Saturday, 28 June, Robson dropped in, causing a bit of a stir at the shopping centre.

“This is tremendous what you’re doing,” he said, “that’s why I’m happy to come here,” in response to a question on what he thought of KSK.

He patiently signed autographs and took photos with fans (many of whom were KSK volunteers themselves!) and was thanked for his time with a gift of the coffee table book, If not now, when?. He then had to go off for his next appointment, generously leaving behind a few spare copies of signed photos.

Despite KSK’s involvement at 1U, it was business as usual to pack and distribute food to the homeless on Saturday evening. As some of the volunteers were manning the stall, it was fortunate that we had volunteers from KMP, the media and publications house which produced the forementioned coffee table book, to help out.

All in all, it was a busy weekend for KSK, but one that always reminds us of the kindness and generosity of humanity, which is always there but often forgotten in our usual hectic schedules.

Missed the action? Don't worry, we have it all on video here:
